Biography

I’m beginning this bio by promising not to refer to myself in the third person-Scott Henry did this…Scott Henry did that. I’m a regular guy from Milwaukee and that never made sense to me. Where I’m from, we just tell it like it is.

Here’s my story…

I was raised in the Midwest with Midwest values. My father was a machinist, carpenter, electrician and dictator. He worked at the same company for 44 years and my mother worked at Sears for 25 years. She got a 25% discount, so everything I ever owned came from Sears. And I had to keep it forever because every single product seemed to come with a lifetime warranty, including my Toughskin jeans.

Like a good Midwestern boy, I followed in my father’s footsteps and began working as a machinist in a tool and die shop. That was 1988. I knew that life wasn’t for me, but I grew up thinking that that was what I was supposed to do. One day, my boss stopped my my machine and suggested I go to the open mic night at a nearby comedy club. Maybe he was encouraging me, maybe he was thinking of firing me. Either way, that night changed my life. I got hooked and a year later left Milwaukee behind to travel as a stand-up comedian.

Those first few year were spent entirely on the road, going from one club to the next. I learned a lot about saving money…I learned I’m not good at it. Since then, I’ve become a headliner in all major U.S. Clubs and over 200 colleges. I’ve also traveled to 32 different countries, including Iraq in December 2003 entertaining our military troops with the USO. In addition, I’ve had the pleasure of performing for numerous associations and Fortune 500 companies including Toyota, 3M and Buick.

I have also done several different shows for Comedy Central, VH-1, NBC, and hosted a show for FX. In addition, I have starred in independent films and opened for such stars as Tim Allen, Damon Wayons, Ellen Degeneres and Drew Carey. Working with these comics inspired me to work toward developing a sitcom based on my stand-up comedy. Over the past three years, I have spent two years working with ABC and Touchstone (Disney), and most recently, a year working with UPN and Paramount, to create a show that is eerily similar to my own life-the story of a Milwaukee guy who challenges status quo and finds his own way.
